Free agency has kicked into high gear in the NHL, and some players have already traded in their black and gold uniforms for others.  One of the big names to leave the Pens already was big defenseman Hal Gill.  The 6’7 Gill signed a two-year contract with the Montreal Canadians worth $4.5 million.  The Penguins also lost their back-up goaltender in Mathieu Garon.  Garon signed a two-year deal worth almost $1.2 million to be the back up goaltender in Columbus.  The Penguins did make a few signing yesterday when they added tough guy Mike Rupp from the New Jersey Devils.  Rupp, who helped the Devils win the Stanley Cup back in 2003, is 6’5 and weights about 230 pounds and will fill the hole left by Eric Godard.  The Penguins also Brian Strait to a three-year entry-level contract.  Other high profile signings included Marian Hossa signing a 12-year deal with the Chicago Blackhawks worth $62 million.
