Butler County Community College's Creative Learning Center has moved.

The new Learning Center is in the old college bookstore.

The center provides childcare, preschool and kindergarten for children of college staff and students.

The Butler Golden Tornado marching band Pie Festival is Wednesday, September 8th at Art Bernardi Stadium.

The band will perform and the varsity football players and cheerleaders will be introduced starting at 7:30.

Tickets are five dollars. You can get them from band members or at the gate.

St. Barnabas Health System will hold a presentation on home care and independence later this week.

"Home Care: How To Maintain Your Independence" will be the topic of a Docs Talk session this Wednesday at 1:30pm in Hilltop Hall at The Village at St. Barnabas. 

Cindy Dunn, a registered nurse and Director of Home Care for St. Barnabas Medical Center will be the featured speaker.  She'll talk about making daily activities easier, maintaining dignity and independence while providing skilled care and providing physical, occupational and speech therapy.

A Harrisville man is the recipient of the inaugural Erie Insurance Agency of the Year award for community service.

Gary Turner, owner of the Turner Agency, received the award at the end of July.

The award recognizes independent agencies who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to community through volunteerism.

Erie Insurance donated 25-hundred dollars to eduKenya, an organization founded by a Grove City native, that helps develop schools in the capital of that African nation.

Slippery Rock's 24th Annual Heritage Festival is coming up two weeks from this coming Saturday.

The event will be held on Saturday, August 21st from 10am to 4pm on the campus of Slippery Rock University, and is sponsored by the Slippery Rock Heritage Association.

The Republican Women of Butler County will sponsor the second in a series of public events being held by the organization this year.  The second will promote energy awareness.

The forum will take place at The Homestead, located at 1280 Prospect Road in Prospect on Monday August 9th at 7pm.  The forum looks at how our energy policies relate to various elements in our community such as business, industry, public utilities and just private citizens.
 
Among the confirmed speakers are: George Ellis, President of the Pennsylvania Coal Association; Elizabeth Stelle from the Commonwealth Foundation, a legislative think-tank; and Neil Convery from the office of Representative Brian Ellis, co-chair of the Gas & Oil Caucus of the House, among others.

The Butler County Young Professionals, in partnership with the United Way of Butler County, will present the "Ducky Derby" one week from today.

The derby will be held during the Seventh Inning Stretch at the Butler Bluesox Game at Pullman Park on Thursday, August 5th.  The race will take place in Sullivan Run behind the park.

Participants can buy a numbered "Ducky" ticket for $5 to have their ducky entered into the race, with a $1,000 cash prize awarded to the renter of the winning duck.  Proceeds benefit the Moraine Trails Scoutreach Program.

AAFD to Hold September 11th 5K Run/Walk Print E-mail

The Adams Area Fire District will hold the AAFD Herb Kaufman Memorial 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, September 11th at Adams Township Community Park. 
 
The 5K is held in conjunction with the Adams Township Community Day & serves as the kick-off to the day’s activities.  Herb Kaufman was a former chief and president of the Valencia Volunteer Fire Department, and served as liaison for the merger of the Mars and Valencia departments to form Adams Area Fire District.

In addition to his commitment to fire service, Kaufman was also an Adams Township supervisor, a member of the Parks and Recreation Committee, Zoning Hearing Board and served in the Army Reserve for six years.

Registration is $12 before August 21 and $15 after August 21. Organizers are also seeking sponsorships and in-kind gifts.
