An Armstrong County woman sustained serious injuries in a one-vehicle accident that happened late Saturday morning in Kiski Township.
State Police at Kittanning say 27-year-old Alaina Miller of Elderton was traveling north on Route 156 near the Wilson Road intersection when she lost control of her vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway, strike a utility pole and then overturn several times. Miller was not wearing her seatbelt, and as the vehicle was overturning, she was ejected from the window and into a field about thirty feet from the vehicle.
Police say Miller may have been driving under the influence at the time of the crash, and charges are pending the outcome of blood lab results. An open alcoholic beverage container was reportedly inside the vehicle, according to police. |

Charges are pending against two adults and seven teenagers in connection with a field trip to eastcentral Pennsylvania last fall.
Kittanning-based State Police say it started when the Leechburg Moose lodge sponsored a scholarship program for high school seniors; namely the three boys and four girls. They, along with a 31-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman serving as chaperones, boarded a van for a day-long program presentation in Selinsgrove, Snyder County. The trip took place shortly before the Thanksgiving holiday.
On the return trip, one of the students on board got permission from the adult male, who was driving the van, to smoke marijuana. Some of the other students and the driver smoked the marijuana, with the woman providing assistance. One of the female students on board reported the incident to her mother.
Police are continuing their investigation. |

State Police at Franklin are looking for a Venango County woman who may have fallen into the ice-covered Allegheny River last week.
Police say 20-year-old Molly Margaret Keats of Franklin was last seen one week ago this past Monday, and was last heard from the following day by text message. Evidence recovered from her home and the banks of the Allegheny River suggest that Keats took a large amount of prescription medication before leaving her residence and making her way out onto the surface of ice over the river before entering the water.
Molly Margaret Keats is a white female with long blonde hair and blue eyes. She stands about five feet five inches tall and weighs about 120 pounds. She could possibly be wearing an olive drab hooded sweat shirt with a fur collar.
Anyone with information can call the Franklin State Police barracks at (814) 676-6596. |

A Beaver County jury has convicted a man of murder and other charges in a shooting that wounded his estranged wife and killed her friend.
According to our news exchange partners at WPXI-TV, the jury found 56-year-old Gregory Baker guilty of third-degree murder last night in the December 2009 shooting that killed Thomas Dougherty and wounded Linda Baker. Police say Mrs. Baker had filed for divorce in the days before the shooting.
Authorities say Mr. Baker shot the pair as they left a restaurant in the East Rochester Township Plaza along Route 65. The conviction, which spares him the death penalty, means that Baker will spend up to 40 years in prison. His sentencing date has not been set. |
