An assisted living administrator will host a discussion on that very subject next week at St. Barnabas in Gibsonia.

Jill Treglia, administrator at The Arbors at St. Barnabas will lead the discussion entitled "The Perks of Assisted Living" this coming Monday, December 13th at 1:30pm in Hilltop Hall at The Village at St. Barnabas on Meridian Road in Gibsonia. 

Treglia's discussion will cover topics such as medication assistance, safety and security, independence and privacy, nurse supervision, and others.  A question and answer session will follow her presentation.

The Associated Artists of Butler County is holding its Annual Holiday Show & Sale beginning later this week.

The show will officially open this Friday, December 3rd at 7 PM, and will remain in place at The Art Center, located at 344 South Main Street in Butler through New Year's Eve.

Admission is free to the public during the AABC Art Center's normal operating hours of noon to 6pm Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, and noon to 4pm on Saturdays.

Residents and staff at Trinity Living Center will host their annual craft show and sale one week from tomorrow.

The event will take place on Friday, December 3rd from 9am to 3pm at the nursing home located at 400 Hillcrest Drive in Grove City.  Local craft vendors will display and sell their one-of-a-kind creations including holiday items, quilts, dolls, pillows, table runners, gift baskets and more.

Food and sweet treats will also be available for purchase.

A resident of West Haven Manor in Apollo is the new Ms. Quality Life.

Millie Cecchi, who's 84, won the title at a pageant in Pittsburgh last week.

Millie, who is from East Vandergrift, was one of nearly a dozen contestants selected in competitions at Quality Life Services facilities around western Pennsylvania.

Two local businesses have announced promotions.

Friedman's Freshmarkets reports that Donald Eury is now store manager for the company's Chicora store. Eury, who lives in Butler, joined Friedman's in 2000. He's been a co-manager at the Greater Butler Mart store.

Central Electric Cooperative has promoted Terry Kriebel to journeyman lineman. Kriebel is from Saint Petersburg and started as an apprentice lineman with Central Electric in 2005.

The Rotary Club of Butler has given a thousand dollar gift to Irene Stacy Mental Health Center.

According to the center's Executive Director Roger Kelly, the money will be used for room partitions so that clients have more privacy.

The gift was made possible through donations from local businesses and citizens during the Rotary's annual golf outing.

A senior at Freeport High School is the recipient of the President's Volunteer Service Award.

The Prudential Spirit of Commnity Awards presented Lacy Smiesko with the honor on behalf of President Obama.

The awards program recognizes young people who give significant amounts of time to serve their communities.

The Butler County Bar Association received three awards at last week's Conference of County Bar Leaders seminar in Harrisburg.

The local lawyers group was recognized for participation in the "Get Help Now" initiative to assist those affected by the recession, for its observance of a Red Mass for members of the legal profession and for the Charles Dillon Memorial Cup. That event promotes camaraderie among bar members.

The Republican Women of Butler County will hold their monthly meeting one week from today.

The group will meet on Monday March 8th at 6:30 pm, at Natili's South; located at 109 West Wayne Street in Butler.  New members are welcome to attend. 

Those attending are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to benefit Praise Gospel Fellowship Food Bank.

The Republican Women of Butler County will be sponsoring a Basket Bingo this Saturday, March 6th.
 
The event will be held at the Elks Lodge, 80 Kaufman Drive, in Butler.

Doors open at 11am for lunch.  Bingo begins at noon.  Cost is $25.  Call 724-789-7882 for tickets or information.
